NEW DELHI: A day after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) called off its massive 37-day protest at Jantar Mantar following the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the government’s acceptance of its core demands, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke struck a markedly different tone on Sunday.

However, the movement’s broader political trajectory is already facing scrutiny from the very youth it seeks to represent. Anjaneya Tewari, a B.Tech student from Chandigarh, publicly challenged the CJP founder, asking if he will now come to protest against the Punjab Government, as many youngsters are facing severe paper leak issues in the state. Tewari pointedly stated that if Dipke does not show up for the students in Punjab, Generation Z will clearly understand his true motives.

‘No Panic’ and a Peaceful Night’s Sleep

Reflecting on the toll the relentless national campaign took, Dipke shared his immediate sense of relief.

“I could go to sleep and wake up in my bedroom without thinking about what to do next or what will happen till evening,” Dipke said, adding that there was now “no panic” and that the movement had entered a new phase.

Calling the 37 days at Jantar Mantar “really, really difficult,” he made it unequivocally clear that the organization did not view the conclusion of the protest as the end of its campaign.

“This is just the beginning. The CJP has a long way to go,” he declared.

The Evolution of the ‘Cockroach’ Movement

Dipke, a political communication strategist, founded the CJP in May as a satirical response to a controversial remark by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. What began as a symbolic, online campaign rapidly evolved into a nationwide youth movement.

Thousands of supporters, proudly identifying themselves as “cockroaches,” gathered at Jantar Mantar, turning the site into the epicenter of a sustained campaign led largely by students and young people. The protesters held Pradhan responsible for the NEET-UG paper leak and the tragic suicides of several aspirants, demanding his immediate resignation.

As the agitation gathered unprecedented momentum, support for the movement grew steadily. The culmination occurred on Saturday when Pradhan officially resigned. Concurrently, the government assured protesters that no punitive action would be taken against them, prompting the CJP to announce the withdrawal of its protest.

Gratitude Amidst Illness

In his Sunday message, Dipke revealed that the outcome came after weeks of grueling uncertainty. He thanked those who stood by the movement despite widespread skepticism.

Revealing that he was actively recovering from typhoid and had been running a high fever, he apologized for not being able to personally thank the supporters at Jantar Mantar after the protest ended. The CJP also shared a photograph on X showing Dipke receiving intravenous treatment while resting in bed.

“All the people who were there at Jantar Mantar for 37 days, I want to thank each and every one of you. And I want to tell you that I really, really, really appreciate what you did for this country,” he said.

Dipke also graciously acknowledged those who questioned and criticized the movement, stating that their doubts and questions had helped improve the organization’s functioning and ultimately enabled them to deliver on their promises.

With the protest tents at Jantar Mantar now down, Dipke’s first public message intentionally shifted the focus from the movement’s immediate victory to its broader political journey—signaling that the CJP’s fight for systemic educational reform is far from complete.
