NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi-NCR, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and light to moderate rainfall across the capital region. While the weather activity is likely to impact road traffic, outdoor activities, and daily routines, it is also expected to bring much-needed relief from the prevailing intense summer heat, keeping temperatures below recent highs.
Temperature and Damage Warnings
The maximum temperature in Delhi-NCR is forecast to hover around 36 to 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to settle near 26 degrees Celsius. The IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and very light to light rainfall spanning the morning, forenoon, and night hours.
Officials have warned that strong, gusty winds could uproot trees, damage weak structures, and disrupt smooth traffic movement. Consequently, residents have been strictly advised to avoid open areas and refrain from taking shelter under trees during adverse weather conditions. Similar weather conditions with thunderstorms and scattered rainfall are expected to continue through June 6, though no formal weather warning has been issued for the day itself.
Clearing Skies Ahead
Weather conditions are on track to improve significantly from June 7 onwards. The sky is likely to remain mainly clear, causing temperatures to climb back up.
The extended weekly forecast indicates a steady rise in mercury:

June 7: Mainly clear skies with a maximum temperature rising to around 39°C and a minimum settling at 27°C.

June 9 & 10: Persistent clear skies with maximum temperatures hitting a peak of around 41°C and minimums remaining near 28°C on both days.
The meteorological department reiterated that while the brief spell of thunderstorms, strong winds, and rainfall provides temporary relief, residents must stay updated with the latest localized weather advisories as conditions evolve over the next 48 hours.
