New Delhi, October 7: In a major step towards advancing digital education in India, Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Thursday launched the NIELIT Digital University (NDU) — a national platform aimed at delivering high-quality digital learning in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Science, and Semiconductors.
Designed with flexible learning modes and virtual labs, the NDU aims to equip youth across the country with future-ready skills, bridging the digital divide and fostering inclusive education.

Accessible via NDU.digital, the platform is integrated with the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), approved by NCVET, and aligned with NSQF standards. It features:
- Multilingual content
- AI-powered learning tools
- Verifiable digital certificates
- Career mentoring services
The university aims to reach 4 million learners by 2030, focusing on inclusivity and employability.
Focus on Industry-Education Alignment
The minister emphasized that NIELIT should follow successful models like the Gati Shakti University, which is deeply integrated with the logistics and transport sectors. He noted that India’s electronics manufacturing industry has grown to ₹13 lakh crore, and NIELIT must play a vital role in skilling the workforce to support this growth.
Expert Panel on AI & Digital Education
A panel discussion was also held with experts from Intel, Infosys, Microsoft, and Barco Electronics, discussing the role of AI in education, emerging industry trends, and strategies to align digital skilling with market demands.
The event saw participation from over 1,500 attendees, including Members of Parliament, MLAs, educators, and industry leaders.
NIELIT’s Expanding Legacy
NIELIT (National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Electronics and IT, has been a pioneer in digital empowerment with:
- 56 centres
- 750+ accredited institutes
